Government and Chand party sign a three-point agreement
Pact includes lifting of ban on Communist Party
of Nepal activities and freeing its cadres as well as withdrawing cases against
them.

The government and the Chand-led Communist
Party of Nepal have signed a three-point agreement.
The agreement includes the Communist Party of
Nepal will seek to address all its political issues through dialogue, it will
carry out all its political activities in a peaceful manner and the Nepal
government will lift a ban it has imposed on the party’s activities, according
to a brief statement issued by the leaders of talks panels of both sides on
Thursday. The agreement talks about freeing Communist Party of Nepal cadres
from jail and withdrawing court cases against them.
The agreement comes two days after the government formed a team under Home Minister
Ram Bahadur Thapa to hold talks with the Communist Party of Nepal.
The party too had responded with its own talks
team led by Khadga Bahadur Biswakarma.
Two rounds of dialogue between the government
and Chand party were held on Wednesday at Baluwatar, where both sides had
expressed hope of a positive outcome.
The government had imposed a ban on Chand party’s activities in March
2019 following twin blasts in the Capital in which one
person had died.
Oli’s foreign relations adviser is a member of
the government talks team while Udaya Bahadur Chalaune is present in the Chand
side’s dialogue panel.
According to the statement, signed by Thapa
and Biswakarma, details of the agreement will be made public on Friday at 2pm
amid a programme.
The programme will be addressed by Prime
Minister KP Sharma Oli and Communist Party of Nepal General Secretary Netra
Bikram Chand, said the statement.
